Preceptor Program Eligibility

Spring 2024 Faculty Application for Funding

Faculty Eligibility:

Full-time faculty who are teaching a Top 40 designated, large enrollment course (70 or more students per section) without graduate assistant support or full-time faculty who are teaching a Prospect for Success designated course are eligible to apply for funding. Calls for faculty to submit applications for funding usually occur around the midpoint of the fall and spring semesters.

Funding/Practicalities:

Funding is awarded on a semester basis through the Office of Undergraduate Education. Preceptors are paid $12 per hour for approximately 100 hours per semester. Preceptors are recruited and selected by the faculty member teaching the course.

Expectations of Faculty Awarded Funding:

  • To provide all necessary training in the course content that the preceptor needs to be effective
  • To mentor the preceptor on a regular basis throughout the semester
  • To provide both early alert and midterm grade reports on all enrolled students – the assumption being that the preceptor is providing assistance necessary to make that happen
  • To structure the preceptorship as a professional development opportunity for students that applies to the tasks assigned and the supervision and mentoring provided

Preceptor Eligibility:

Nominated preceptors must have a minimum of 30 earned credits, be in good academic standing, and have earned at least a B or higher in the course they are supporting. Preceptors are also required to be enrolled as full time, first-degree seeking students.

Expectations of Preceptors:

  • To attend some common training; it is expected to include up to a full day shortly before the semester begins
  • To attend 2 professional development events/activities/workshops throughout the semester and/or complete 2 short reflections about their preceptor experience
  • To review and acknowledge their understanding of important peer leader policies and procedures
