Gena Smith, MEd

Gena became the Director of Disability Services at UNC Charlotte in September 2014. Previously, she was Program Director for the Office of Disability Services at Winthrop University for 17 years. There, she oversaw the growth of that office into a comprehensive program serving the Winthrop community through direct service to students, advocacy, and consultation. She holds an M.Ed. in Counseling and Development from Winthrop and a B.A. in English from Furman University. She had extensive involvement in the Rock Hill area through her work on the Human Rights Committee for York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs and as a member of the Board of Directors for York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs. She is now a North Carolina resident and lives in Concord.
