Mark Verburg, EdD

Mark Verburg is director of the 49ers Athletic Academic Center (AAC). Verburg, who is in his 19th year with the University, had served as the AAC associate director since 2012. Verburg has advised every 49ers sport including assisting with the historic addition of new programs such as football and women’s golf. Additionally, he served as tutor coordinator from 2012-16 and coordinated the Life Skills program and the department’s community service efforts from 2002-12. Currently, he advises men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf and softball. He began his 49ers career as Charlotte’s marketing and compliance intern in 2001-02.

A 1999 business management graduate from the University of Missouri, Verburg earned a Master of Education in Sport Management from the University of Georgia in 2001 and a Master of Liberal Studies from UNC Charlotte in 2010. Mark has his doctorate in Educational Leadership (Higher Education) from UNC Charlotte.
